I mean c'mon, they have a pool! And they seem to be home most of the time instead of working, so if that was my lifestyle I'd be swimming all the time and looking as good as Bobby in no time.
Oh, in case I've lost you, I'm talking about
DALLAS. The tv show, not the place (hence the caps). BEST. SOAP. EVER.
I've been meaning to write this post for awhile, and am finally getting around to it now. Part of my new 'actually post once-in-awhile' updating scheme. Aaaannyyywaaayyy...
Tammy asked me to get DVD boxed-set of the first couple of seasons from the public library (yay libraries) so she had something to watch while she cooking/whatever during my evening commute home. Plus, we'd recently watched Freaks & Geeks (BEST. SHOW. CANCELLED-TOO-SOON. EVER.) and Bill was watching it during a couple of episodes, so we were a little intrigued that way. Only I wasn't so intrigued that I planned to watch the show, so Tammy was all set.
Except.
She watched the first episode on the portable DVD player in my vicinity while I was working on something.
And I started watching too.
And I LOVED IT!!!
From the first second onwards, the show is nothing but sex, scandal, intrigue, backstabbing, shady politics, dirty business, family tension and doublecrossing - in short, everything that makes a soap a soap. And it was unapologetic about it too! The writers basically just decided 'yes, this is a soap, and we're going to make better than every other soap has ever been, and we don't care what you think!'. Or something like that anyway, it's not like I was there.
I'm now a DALLAS junkie. We finished watching the second season a few weeks ago, and I've been craving my fix ever since, but Tammy says she need a 'DALLAS break' (whatever that means). As soon as she's ready, I'll be rushing back to the library. The writing is excellent (sure a little far-fetched at times, but hey it is a soap opera after all), the acting is fantastic, and the characters are, for the most part, real people with actual complexity and depth! Even J.R., who I have to say is the BEST. VILLAIN. EVER. is just so deliciously evil you can't help but hate him while at the same time desperatly wanting to know what he's going to do next. And just when you think he has no humanity in him whatsoever, there is his final scene (I think) in the last episode of season two...
This has gone on long enough, but I could just keep writing about it if I let myself. Seriously, if you like high-end low drama, you owe it to yourself to check out DALLAS. Plus, Pam's car.
Hello, my name is Thallid, and I love DALLAS.
